Our test endpoint answers every request with 303 See Other.

curl -i https://mockfox.dev/api/status/303

Use it in tests, health-check monitors or to see how your client handles a 303. Add ?delay=2000 to slow it down.

What does HTTP 303 mean?

The correct status for the Post/Redirect/Get pattern: after a form POST succeeds, the server answers 303 with Location: /orders/42 and the browser loads that page with GET, so refreshing doesn't resubmit the form. Unlike 302, the spec guarantees the method changes to GET (except for HEAD). Next.js uses 303 for redirect() called inside a Server Action.

Handling 303

  1. Visitors: Browsers handle redirects automatically. If you're stuck in a loop, clear the site's cookies and cache.
  2. Developers: Check the Location header and test redirects with curl -I. Prefer 301/308 for permanent moves and 302/303/307 for temporary ones.

Example 303 response

HTTP/1.1 303 See Other
Location: /orders/42
Content-Type: application/json

{"status":303,"error":"See Other"}

3xx Redirection: Further action (usually following a Location header) is needed to complete the request. See the full list of HTTP status codes.
